Here’s How You Can Cut Fondant with Cricut in Easiest Steps

Edible cake printing is a profession that requires a certain set of tools like custom printing services and a Cricut machine. These tools make the job easier for a professional or hobbyist as it is quite handy to have a Cricut machine to cut any design to your liking.

Cutting icing sheets in different shapes and sizes can be done efficiently and effectively using the Cricut. Simply modify your Cricut machine for a few minor modifications and you can cut fondant designs by yourself instead of purchasing Cricut or Cricut cakes. If you change your mind, you can easily revert these modifications to use your Cricut machine again for normal paper projects.

Prepare The Cricut Machine

The first thing you need to do is remove the rubber rollers. They are attached to the blade near the bar steel. To prevent fondant from becoming sticky, apply butter or oil to the Cricut cutting mat. Cricut cake mats are compatible with Cricut machines that have a 12" X 12" mat. It is recommended, however, to remove any gluiness from the Cricut cutting mat to prevent fondant contamination.

How To Use The Cricut Machine

Here's where it gets tricky. The fondant must be evenly applied to the cutting mat. It is important to take into account the thickness of the fondant. You need to ensure it is thick enough to allow the blade to pass through it without damaging it. If the fondant is too thick, thin it with a pasta maker. Usually, fondant with an approximate thickness of 0.8" is ideal for cutting.

In order to ensure that the cuts are smooth, cut the desired designs using a sharp blade once applied. When you are done cutting designs, the fondants are ready to be used. The blade must be steady and firm while cutting to avoid any errors in the design. The pressure applied to the blade should be high so that it penetrates the thick fondant.

Point To Be Noted

It is important to note that the Cricut machine works with a variety of materials, including papers, vinyl, fabric, foam, leather, etc., and is not designed specifically for food preparation. Therefore, it should be cleaned properly before cutting fondant.

How to cut edible sheets with the Cricut machine

Using a Cricut machine to cut edible sheets like frosting sheets or wafer papers is quite simple.

As the Cricut's standard mat size is either 12" X 12" or 12" X 24", you simply have to adjust the paper size.

There are two standard sizes of edible sheets available from Icinginks: 8" X 11" and 11" X 17".

Place the sheets at the "Align Here" arrow to ensure proper alignment on the mat.

Press "Load Paper" on the Cricut and place the mat with the arrow side facing the rollers.

You can print shapes and designs on edible sheets using Icinginks' custom printing for edible images and edible ink printer, then cut the sheets using a Cricut cutter.
The standard Cricut cutters can also be used if you don't own a Cricut machine and don't plan on buying one anytime soon. You can print edible images with your Icinginks edible printer, then cut them out with the cutter.

You can use shape cutters, scissors, or any other manual cutter if you do not have a Cricut cutter. With Icinginks' custom print service, you can create custom frosting sheets and receive cutting services.
