How to Refill Edible Ink Cartridges

You should refill your edible ink cartridges with the same edible ink which was filled in your original cartridges. For this, you can contact your supplier to check if their refill bottles have the same edible ink that is used in their pre-filled cartridges. Our Icinginks edible refill bottles include same edible inks which are used in our pre-filled Icinginks ink cartridges.

Icinginks Edible Cartridges Refilling Instructions:

  1. Refill tools required:

a.) Icinginks edible ink bottle
b.) Refill injector with needle
c.) Cartridge sealing clip

Step 1: Attach the cartridge holder clip to the cartridge. In absence of the clip, cover the bottom hole using the thumb to create the pressure and avoid leakage of ink. Remove the top refilling color plug from the cartridge.

Step 2: For small cartridges (CLI series), fill the syringe up to 8-10ml of edible ink and for the large black cartridge (PGI series), fill up to 12-15ml.

Step 3: Hold the cartridge in the inclined direction so that ink goes to the sponge side first. To refill, insert the blunt needle through the filling vent and slowly push the syringe to pour edible ink into the cartridge.

Step 4: Insert the refilling plug to the filling vent.

Step 5: Shake the cartridge upside down to settle the inks in both chambers.

Step 6: Take a damp paper towel, hold the cartridge and remove the bottom cartridge holder clip. Again remove the top refilling plug and let the cartridge drip 2-3 drops of edible ink to resume the normal flow of edible inks.

NOTE: During the process, pay extra attention to make sure that no air bubble is formed. If the bubble stays inside the cartridge, they will pass to the printhead that will clog the nozzles of color channels. To resolve this, you would have to perform multiple cleanings and deep cleaning procedures until the bubble breaks and air gets pushed out from printhead (this will result in wasting an enormous amount of ink).

Step 7: Insert the rubber refilling plug to stop the dripping and your cartridge is ready to use.

Some points to take care of:

DO NOT BUY generic or low quality cheap edible inks from eBay or any other marketplace as they may not be FDA compliant or made from Kosher raw materials. In most cases, these inks are toxic and unhealthy. The Icinginks edible inks are 100% made from authentic FDA approved ingredients with Kosher certified labels.

NOTE: The older Canon printer cartridges had ARC (Auto Reset Chip) installed to determine the level of ink. However, the new cartridges don’t have ARC. Due to it, once refilled, they don’t display the ink level. However, they do display low ink level warning. Don’t worry about it. You can still refill the cartridges and use it without any problem.

The following Canon latest model printers have non-ARC cartridges:

  • Canon PIXMA TS9521C
  • Canon PIXMA TS9520
  • Canon PIXMA TS9120
  • Canon PIXMA TS8220
  • Canon PIXMA TS8120
  • Canon PIXMA TS6220
  • Canon PIXMA TS6120
  • Canon PIXMA TR8540
  • Canon PIXMA TR8520
  • Canon PIXMA TR7820
  • Canon PIXMA TR7520

Always remove the edible cartridges from your machine for refilling. If you refill them inside the printer, the ink may leak from the sponge and damage the printhead. Use a separate injector needle to fill each color to avoid mixing of edible colors. Also, it is advisable to underfill the cartridge rather than OVER FILLING. For better results, you should replace the cartridge after refilling 4-5 times with a new one.
