  1. Cake flour: 2 cups

  2. Granulated sugar: 2 cups

  3. Cocoa Powder: 3/4 cup

  4. Vegetable oil: ½ cup

  5. Salt: 1 tsp

  6. Baking powder: 1 tsp

  7. Vegan Buttermilk: 1 cup

  8. Eggs: 2

  9. Vanilla essence: 2 tsp

  10. Hot water: 1 cup


Ingredients For Silky Chocolate Buttercream:



  1. Unsalted butter: 1 cup (230g)

  2. Confectioners’ sugar or granulated sugar: 3 and 1/2 cups (420g)

  3. Unsweetened cocoa powder: 1/2 cup (41g)

  4. Heavy cream or milk: 3 Tablespoons (45ml)

  5. Salt: 1/8 teaspoon

  6. Pure vanilla extract: 2 teaspoons



Step-By-Step Instructions To Make The Chocolate Cake:



  1. Preheat your oven at 350° F and take two 8 “round baking pans and line its bottom with parchment paper. Sprinkle some cocoa powder in it.

  2. Keep all the ingredients at room temperature. Take a bowl and all dry ingredients into it and mix well with a stand mixer or hand whisk while adding the liquid ingredients slowly. Mix it for a few minutes until smooth.

  3. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared bake pan.

  4. Bake it for 45 minutes until your cake tester comes out clean.

  5. Let it cool at room temperature for 10 minutes and then put it in a fridge.


Step-By-Step Instructions To Make The Chocolate Buttercream:



  1. Bring the butter to room temperature and beat it on medium speed with a hand blender or a stand mixer. Let the butter become fluffy and white.

  2. Add confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, salt, and vanilla extract one by one onto the smooth butter. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds

  3. Increase to high speed and beat for some more till it takes the classic buttercream structure or consistency.



Pro Tips: 


Add 1/4 cup more confectioners’ sugar or cocoa powder if frosting is too thin. Add cream if frosting is too thick. Observe, taste and beat.


You can use the Choco buttercream immediately or store it for later use. This recipe can be stored in an air-tight container or zip-lock bag for up to 1 week in the refrigerator or 3 months in the freezer. Thaw the frozen buttercream and simply beat it for a few minutes to get the original consistency.
