What is a Wafer Paper?

Blank wafer paper also called rice paper is a white sugar-free, semi-transparent, and edible paper that can be printed on with Icinginks Markers or through an edible printer that consumes edible inks. It is thin, smooth, and crispy but also strong to some extent. It is made up of potato starch, vegetable oil, and water along with harmless preservatives. The paper differs in size and thickness according to different brands.

Icinginks sells 0.27 mm, 0.4 mm, and 0.6 mm thick wafer papers that are available in packs of 25/50 or 100 A4-sized sheets.

Uses of Wafer Papers

1. It is useful for cutting out images, text, and 3D pictures for the decoration of cakes, cookies, bread, pastries, candy apples, fruits, and vegetables.

2. It is also beneficial for making edible colorful flowers, gifts, and butterflies. Its colorful pattern is also used as a base for Sugar Candies.

What is a Frosting sheet?

Frosting sheets, also known as Icing Sheets or Sugar Sheets, contain thinly compressed layers of icing with a plastic sheet back. The Icinginks brand of edible sheets is made of starches, sugar, and natural gums. They are free from nuts, dairy, and gluten. A flex frost edible fabric sheet can be folded without breaking. It is very useful for decorating cake tops and sides as well. The sheets are slightly sweet with a hint of vanilla. Icinginks frosting sheets typically measure 0.65 mm thick.

Uses of frosting sheets

1. Frosting sheets are advantageous for the customization of cakes, cupcakes, pastries, cookies, and other similar foods.

2. They are specially designed for Canon/Epson printers that are used by professional cake decorators.

3. With a variety of pre-designed templates, you can print perfect images on them.

Difference between wafer paper and frosting sheets

1. A wafer paper sheet does not contain a plastic backing layer, while a frosting sheet always has one.

2. In comparison, wafer papers are tasteless while frosting sheets are flavored with vanilla or other flavors.

3. It is cheaper to buy wafer paper than a frosting sheet.

4. The images printed on wafer paper are lower in quality than the images printed on frosting sheets.

5. The frosting sheets are superior to wafer papers in qualities

6. Unlike wafer papers, frosting sheets must be airtight to maintain the humidity necessary for effective printing.

7. Wafer papers are not available in pre-cut circles while the Icinginks frosting sheets also come with the facility.

8. Wafer paper requires cutting with scissors after the image is printed, while a frosting sheet with pre-cut circles only requires pulling a picture from a circle, leaving behind the plastic backing. Frosting sheets, unlike wafer papers, always give high resolution to the printed images on them. Wafer papers come in 0.2/0.4/0.6 mm size while frosting sheets are available in 0.65 mm thickness. Hence wafer papers are also thinner than frosting sheets.

Frosting sheets consume more inks than wafer papers due to their texture and thickness, and always provide vibrant images that are printed on them.

A wafer paper image, when put on a cake top, soaks water and gets furrows & grooves while a picture on a frosting sheet remains flat on it.
